FRESH April is massive. The malt base is our tried and tested light lager and oats, with a sprinkling of chit barley. Loaded with big chewy proteins this grist never fails to deliver a luscious opaque haze and generous mouthfeel - just the pillowy malt base needed to carry a massive payload of hops. This month it’s Strata, Simcoe and Riwaka. It’s such a banging combination, I’m not sure why we haven’t used it before and honestly it could be one of our favourites (big call I know). That perfect bittersweet balance of hop and oats, of bitter resin and sweet sun ripened malt, creates an utterly moreish beer. There’s a massive inviting sweet tropical fruit aroma laced with lemongrass. Then the flavour is all bright citrus, packed with pink grapefruit, limeade and kumquat, followed by lush passionfruit and honeydew melon. Best FRESH is a big call, but it’s got to be a contender!
